An app for an epic destination

KARAVAN

An app for an epic destination

This project aimed to create an intuitive mobile app for Karavan Resort by organizing its offerings into a user-friendly structure. Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, I developed wireframes that provided a framework for the app’s development and design, aligning with Karavan’s luxurious experience.
Background
Karavan, a luxurious destination resort developed as part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 project, is located 30 minutes outside of Riyadh. With expansive facilities and numerous activities, the resort needed a mobile app to provide guests with access to the full Karavan experience.

Challenge
Organize the diverse on-site offerings in an intuitive and user-friendly way.

Information Architecture
Delivered an interactive prototype designed in a generic iOS style, to be customized once the brand was fully developed.
Team Collaboration
Working alongside UX lead Anisa Sanusi, researcher Antonella Mazzoni, and art director Nicole McDonald, I led the information architecture to develop wireframes that defined the app’s scope and functionality.

Research and Content Gathering
Antonella presented research on luxury destination and private club apps. Anisa gathered content and activities proposed for the resort. I focused on the app from the user’s perspective, determining how they would access and interact with the content.

Proposed Structure
  1. Home: Quickly answers the question, “What’s going on right now?”
  2. Kalendar: Enables guests to plan their itineraries.
  3. Map: An interactive visual guide to the property, including booking on-site transport.
  4. Guide: A detailed, wiki-like resource containing comprehensive information, similar to the binders found in hotel rooms.
  5. Kompanion: Handy functions such as an AI chatbot, room booking, in-room dining, and more.
Content and Design
I collaborated with the team to generate realistic sample content and created a visually appealing experience following best practices from Apple’s UI guidelines and native apps.
Outcome
The wireframes were warmly received by the client and used as a framework for visual design by Nicole. The final output serves as a guidepost for Karavan as they develop their IT infrastructure to support the proposed functionality. The wireframes will also serve as the initial version of the app design when the build begins.
